Just in time for Christmas, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards has revealed that a 4K restoration is almost complete for Star Wars: A New Hope!  In an interview with magazine Little White Lies, Edwards reveals that during a visit to Industrial Light & Magic in San Francisco, Edwards had a chance to view a newly completed 4K restoration print of the movie franchise’s premiere film.

Does this mean that a new re-release of A New Hope is in the works for next year?  If so, which version will it be?  Regardless, a 4K version of a landmark film such as Episode IV only makes the Ultra HD landscape even more exciting, especially with Rogue One making the final connection between the two completed trilogies.  We can only assume that a complete restoration of the Episodes V and VI are part of 20 Century Fox’s plans, much to the delight of cinephiles everywhere.
