When people think of Vizio, they mostly think of an affordable line of TVs, and who would blame you?  Even though their current M-series line of televisions provides great value, it’s doesn’t stand up to competitors in its class from Sony and Samsung.  So how does a brand like Vizio increase its caché?  Create their own line of premium, super performance screens?  Sure, why not.  Enter the Vizio Reference Series Ultra HD TV with a 65-inch with a US$6,000 price tag, up to a stunning 120-incher at US$130,000.

Vizio’s Reference Series offers 4K UHD along with a Dolby Vision HDR-compliant picture rated at 800 nits of brightness.  That’s nearly double that of LG’s EF9500 OLED at US$5,000, and in line with Samsung’s top-level JS9500 screen.  To showoff Vizio’s Dolby-rated picture, it will arrive with immediate access to Warner Brothers titles like San Andreas, Man of Steel, and Mad Max: Fury Road, which have all been mastered in 4K Ultra HD.

The Reference Series screens also come with 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi, support for 4K Ultra HD content from Netflix, future-ready HDMI ports to accommodate Ultra HD Blu-ray players and set-top boxes.  Interestingly, the 65-inch model alone comes with a 10-inch subwoofer and satellite speakers for a 5.1 setup.

Will Vizio’s new class of screens bring them the credibility among video elitists they seek?  One thing’s for sure, we’ll be keeping an eye on them to see if their new screens deserve a place in our clients’ media rooms.
